Devonport Baptism & Profession of Faith
On Sabbath July 19, Dr Keith Burnett, a retired dentist from Ulverstone, was baptised at Devonport church. Keith’s sister Margaret from Melbourne and his neighbour Jake were present for the special occasion. Despite many health issues and subsequent anointings and answers to prayers, it is particularly pleasing to witness the baptism of someone in senior years who pursued the best part of a lifetime of “other interests”. Keith wore dark red trousers for the baptism and a white shirt following the baptism to symbolise the washing away of his sins (red trousers) and his newness of life in Christ (white shirt).
Kevin Grimshaw would visit the Devonport Church with his wife Heidi (already a church member), from time to time. The Bible Sabbath was, and still is, of special interest. He was fascinated to learn of the 100+ languages in which the seventh day of the week is referred to as “the rest day.” Also, that most Christian Churches, including the one that he was associated with, affirm the Bible Sabbath as the seventh day of the week and that Sunday keeping is based on the traditions of men. The distinctive doctrine of the judgement and the role of the heavenly sanctuary were studied in great depth. On 5 April, Kevin’s membership took the form of a profession of faith due to his prior Christian commitment.
Kevin and Keith are warmly welcomed into fellowship with Devonport Church.
