Wynyard Church News – August 2025

North West Sports Night

For the third consecutive year, Wynyard Church has run North West Sports Nights. These are held at the Somerset Recreation Centre and are aimed at creating a fun activity for all members of the family. Once a month, in the non–daylight-saving months, church and community members from Devonport to Smithton attend. The aim is to bring your family, your friends, your workmates, and enjoy active fun together.

While not everyone plays sport, there is plenty of room and time for socialising and making connections. Ads are placed on Wynyard and Somerset local Facebook pages, and new people are coming along all the time. Friendship evangelism is a sure way to grow connection and show others Christ. Our last one for 2025 will be on Saturday, 13th September.

Wynyard Church Supports Fijian Mission

For over four years, Eric attended Wynyard Church. He came from Fiji to raise money for a church in his home village. In his village, he and his family were a shining light to everyone around them. His dream was to raise funds to start a church.

Eric came and worked in Australia to raise the money. He shared his dream with the church, and we quickly got behind him. We equipped him with a computer and projector to take home to help facilitate church services. In February this year, Eric let us know that they needed help with transport to their mission program. The church family supported him, and we sent $1800 to cover the cost of transporting people from six local villages to the 3-week mission program.

It was exciting to see the impact he was having in his community, with over 100 people attending the meetings. The most wonderful news came at the end of the three weeks—a baptism, with 62 people giving their hearts to Jesus. Praise God!

Wynyard Church STORMCo

Wyyard Church's first STORMCo event was to get active and be involved in Clean Up Australia. It was great to see the full range of church members out in force—from two through to 78 years of age .

It happened to coincide with the Wynyard Foreshore Market, so we not only had the chance to clean up but also to talk to people about who we were and why we were helping. A full trailer load was taken away to the tip!

Wynyard Church Sabbath School

What’s new in your Sabbath School? At Wynyard, Sabbath School has been revamped—circular seating, Power Up challenges (memory verses), children’s songs, icebreakers, and a real focus on 13th Sabbath, prayer, and unity.

It is wonderful to see more people attending, getting involved, learning their memory verses, and connecting on a deeper level. We have grown from having only one child in 2019 to now having Beginners, Primary, and Junior divisions—and soon a Teen class.

We were also challenged to increase our 13th Sabbath School offering. Three years ago, we were reaching $200–$300. Through generous giving, starting the first Sabbath of each quarter, church members have taken up the challenge with real growth. Over the last six quarters, our church has given more than $1000 each 13th Sabbath. Our goal this year has increased to $1400, and last quarter we were able to give over $1500—including $150 in coins! Praise God.

Wynyard Church Puppets

Our young people are the lifeblood of our church. As part of Wynyard Church’s children’s ministry program, under the leadership of Pastor Darryl, we have started a puppet ministry. Not only are the kids becoming experienced puppeteers, but they are also writing their own scripts—great work, Hannah!

The puppets have featured in church services and have been a hit with young and old alike. Many hours went into building the puppet backdrop, with the children joining Pr Darryl, Hannah, and Shannon on Tuesday evenings. Great work, kids!

Find your purpose in Christ, serve your church and community in different ways. Live life abundantly.
